Dia Mundial da Estatística

Realmente, todos os dias são dias de muitas coisas. Acabo de descobrir que hoje é o Dia Mundial da Estatística.

Do site WSD 2010:

WHY A WORLD STATISTICS DAY?

The celebration of the World Statistics Day will acknowledge the service provided by the global statistical system at national and international level, and hope to help strengthen the awareness and trust of the public in official statistics. It serves as an advocacy tool to further support the work of statisticians across different settings, cultures, and domains.

WHAT TO EXPECT

On World Statistics Day, activities at national level will highlight the role of official statistics and the many achievements of the national statistical system. International, regional and sub-regional organizations will complement national activities with additional events.

A programação do dia em vários países está no site. A programação do Brasil:
Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics - IBGE, through its National School of Statistical Sciences - ENCE, has the pleasure of inviting all to its commemorative activities, which will take place in its auditorium, located on level 3 of its building at Rua André Cavalcanti, 106, Santa Teresa, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Program of the event:
15 h – Opening ceremony
15:30 - 16:45h - Conference 1 Title: Official Statistics and the 2010 Brazilian Population Census Speakers: Zélia Bianchini, IBGE, Deputy Director for Surveys, and Marco Antonio dos Santos Alexandre, Technical Coordinator of the 2010 Population Census.
17:00 - 18:15h - Conference 2 Title: Anthropometry and nutritional situation in Brazil: methodology, index and secular tendency. Speaker: André Luiz Martins Costa, IBGE – Family Budget Survey Team, Directorate for Surveys.
18:15 - 18:45h - Coffee break
18:45h - 20h - Conference 3 Title: Statistical modeling to predict the outcome of sports games: The case of World Cup 2010 Speaker: Francisco Louzada Neto – Statistics Department - Federal University of São Carlos.
20h – Closing.

Pelo programa do Brasil e mais alguns textos do site do WSD 2010, acho que não é bem o dia da estatística, mas o dia de dados demográficos do países o que realmente se celebra neste evento. É importante, claro, mas muito menor que ESTATÍSTICA.
