“Scientific activity is expanding quickly in Latin American countries as the region's economy improves and as individual governments acknowledge the link between scientific productivity and industrial and economic development.*

In 2008, the Brazilian life science industry generated an estimated amount of US$400 million in revenues and US$55.5 million in profits. The country’s achievements in renewable fuels and agricultural biotechnology have attracted many investors and multinational companies, leading to an increasing number of acquisitions and partnering deals in the past couple of years with more investment expected for the future.**

The Spotlight on Latin America/Brazil in the October 29 issue of Nature will be accompanied by a career editorial on science workforce issues in Brazil. This is a unique opportunity for organizations to recruit top tier talent and promote events, courses and announcements to the global scientific community. Special package rates are available for those interested in providing advertorial content.”
